about

It was not Free Jazz because most of the time, there was a beat however complex it was. It was not Funk, though here and there, it was very funky. It wasn't Reggae though there were elements from that music. And it wasn't Swing though the music sure enough did swing like hell sometimes. It was like a new kind of "Bitches Brew". The tour went on to Denmark (Copenhagen), Sweden (Lund, Stockholm), and a few more dates in Germany. The two most important reasons why this band rocked so hard was one the mind power of the leader, Ronald Shannon Jackson; and two, the musicians: Jackson, drums; Henry Scott, trumpet and flugelhorn ; Zane Massey, tenor, alto and soprano saxophones; Vernon Reid, guitars and, banjo; Melvin Gibbs and Reverend Bruce Johnson, electric bass.
This was a live band. The album is great but doesn't capture what it sounded like live.
To get the idea, check the title track.
